In the mood for something weird? Then give SOS TV a try.
This is a 12-episode series of TV shorts, starring apocalypse survivors Garnet and Crystal. They live on the now-desolate planet of Walpurgis 3 together with their robot buddies. The two have been sending out broadcasts begging to be rescued, but so far no help has come. Figuring that their messages must simply be too boring, the two decide to instead broadcast their own amateur TV programs in the hopes of drawing more attention.

It is understandable given this premise that the production quality would be pretty low. Two teenage girls aren’t exactly enough to run a top tier TV Production company, even before civilization falls apart. It is however unclear what parts of SOS TV are bad on purpose and which parts are just normal bad.
For example: I assume that the God awful opening song was an intentional joke, but what about the animation. SOS TV is done entirely in CGI and it looks plain rubbish. The movements look unnatural and the (comedic) timing on a lot of scenes is off. Then at other times, this rubbish animation actually made the show funnier. Did they make it look like this bad on purpose or did they occasionally manage to leverage their shortcomings to the anime’s benefit? I have no clue.

What I do know is that SOS TV is pretty damn funny. The 2-minute runtime means that jokes come at a rapid-fire pace. You need 5 minutes after every episode, just to process all the idiotic nonsense that just unfolded. The humor is absurd and each episode uses such wildly different themes that you’ll never know what to expect.
Even if you don’t end up liking it, you’ll have wasted at most 25 minutes. Far less if you skip the unbearable OP.
This sounds just weird enough to be really funny! I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for shining a light on the more obscure anime! I might have not found this one without your post.
